Biography

Pro golfer Eric Axley was born on April 22, 1974 in Athens, Tennessee. He attended college at East Tennessee State and turned professional in 1997. He almost gave up golf after a mountain biking accident in the late 1990s, but he went on to have a successful career. Eric has amassed four professional wins to date. His first win on the PGA TOUR was the Valero Texas Open in 2006.

Axley currently divides his time between the NGA Hooters Tour, eGolf Professional Tour, and the PGA TOUR. Eric also won the 2005 Rex Hospital Open on the Web.com Tour.

Eric resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Cortney, and their two daughters.

Eric Axley first came across poker while still competing — on long road trips the team would kill the evenings at the table. What was a way to pass the time for the others became a pursuit of its own for him: the same work with pressure and incomplete information he knew from competition, only without the physical toll. He started studying theory, reviewing hands and playing online through the off-season. An athlete's discipline gave him an edge most amateurs lack — the ability to stick to a plan when the cards refuse to come. In time the interest widened to casinos and betting, and Eric turned to how the industry works from the inside: bonus terms, real odds, game mechanics. That is what he writes about now — from the position of someone used to calculating risk rather than hoping it goes his way.
